Make Your Own Gin, Vodka & Rum - Shared Workshop at Nelson's Distillery, Knowle Sands, Milton Keynes

Summary: An absolutely brilliant day out - Dave was a fabulous host and made the whole day so enjoyable. Interesting, fun and very funny, plus a bottle of our very own gin to take away. Couldn't fault the whole thing.

Summary: What an amazing we had Nelson's Distillery & School on Friday 11th July 2025. From our arrival to our departure, it was fabulous – we laughed, we talked, we drunk gin, we made gin with each couple choosing their unique botanicals. Refreshments and lunch were plentiful. David spoke us through the history of gin, and gave us a tour – we met Nelson. A great way for two of us to be celebrating a special birthday. Looking forward to trying our own blend and if we like it we can order it again as Nelson’s keep the recipe and can make it again for us. Have a feeling we may be back to try another recipe.

Summary: My daughter in law and I participated in the gin making experience at Nelson's Distillery on Saturday 31st May. The whole session was beautifully organised and not only did we learn about the history of gin and see 'Victory' their copper still, we created our own gin. With over 60 different botanicals to choose from, we were encouraged to mix and match to suit our taste and given excellent advice on other options that could be considered. Not only have I come away with a bottle of gin that I am extremely proud of, I can order additional bottles of my specific recipe gin from Nelson's as and when required. This was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday and the lunch and tasting sessions were also superb

Summary: Upon arriving warmly greeted by the hosts and shown in to wait for other guests. Abundant supply of hot and cold drinks and snacks, all available continuously throughout the day. Given a history of distilling and gin in particular which was made interesting and captivating by a really engaging host. Then shown around the site and the distilling equipment. Our own gin distilling process then begins after learning about the different flavours and botanicals. Pick your own flavours (up to 7 from around 50 options) plus juniper berry and peppers. Guided through the distilling process but still made to feel unique in the room and finish by sealing in wax your own personal bottle to take home. Best part, of course, is that 3 gin drinks are provided through the day and they are genuinely beautiful - best gin I have ever tasted. Would 100% recommend.

Summary: I had an amazing experience at Nelson's Distillery! The hands-on distilling session was both fun and educational — it’s not every day you get to create your own spirit from scratch. The staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do, which really added to the overall atmosphere. I came away with a deeper appreciation for the craft of distilling and a bottle of my own unique creation — such a brilliant and personal touch. Whether you're a spirit enthusiast or just looking for a unique day out, I highly recommend this experience. Thanks to the whole team for a memorable day!

Summary: This was our second distilling experience - during the first we made Gin during a 3 hour experience at a distillery local to where we live, so this second time around we opted for Rum. If I could give this review 11 stars out of 10 I would - for a similar cost to our previous 3-hour experience, this was a 5-hour experience which also included a substantial buffet lunch, and a great selection of hot and cold drinks and biscuits were available on arrival and throughout the day, so plenty for designated drivers also. We also lucked out as we booked a Friday school, we were supposed to be joined by just one other couple who didn't show up so we had private tuition for the full 5 hours! You often hear that other companies cancel bookings if there are insufficient numbers, but not Nelson's so fantastic customer service. Great communication with David prior to the experience as we had a BuyAGift voucher but had to contact Nelson's directly to book - all sorted via email very quickly, they also provide details of taxis and local accommodation with the booking. As for the experience itself, we sampled gin initially to understand about the tasting side, and then sampled 3 of Nelson's excellent award-winning and hand-crafted Rums throughout the experience. They are not stingy on the measures or the mixers to go with them and we got to distil a lovely bottle of Rum with expert guidance on the botanicals etc from David. David is extremely knowledgeable about his subject, charismatic and funny with it and a great guy to spend 5 hours with and learn about the history of Nelsons, various different spirits and the distillation process. We created a personalised great-tasting bottle of Rum and learned so much during the day. Whether you are in a group of 2 or 22 I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Summary: A thoroughly enjoyable day learning about the distillery, the history of gin and most importantly creating your own tipple from a wide selection of botanicals. David was an entertaining host, able to answer all questions and give plenty of advice whilst letting you put your own stamp on your creation. Good lunch and plenty of beverages provided. We came away very impressed with the experience.
